A handful of Far North Queensland’s top musicians will have the chance to kickstart their careers on Cairns’ hottest stage at Local and Vocal today.
The annual talent showcase at Tanks Art Centre will feature 10 of the region’s top emerging artists in a free, family-friendly performance.
Cairns musician and emerging performer Topaz Rose, who performed on the garden stage last year, said she was excited to be back.
“I’m so grateful for the opportunity to do this. I’m still early in my career so it’s exciting to move up to big stage. I’m super proud of how far I’ve come,” Ms Rose said.
The young singer, who is studying a Bachelor of Music at JMC Academy in Brisbane, said she would perform her first original set.
“I’ll be playing the first song I ever wrote called Letters and Roses as well as one of my latest songs from a month ago. I’m excited to share how my music has changed in the past year,” she said.
As well as debuting new music, Ms Rose said she was looking forward to hearing what other local musicians were doing.
“I always get inspiration and new ideas from emerging artists around my age group and I get to hear so many new genres popping out everywhere,” Topaz said.
Also taking the stage at Local and Vocal are emerging musicians, Hannah Bloom, General Sherman, Mia Rose, Psalm 33, Rainforest Rhythm, Vibration Space Station, Vid Seghal, Wawau-mun and Wazz Maloid.
