A large saltwater crocodile has dragged a sea turtle flailing in the sea before devouring it on the banks of a regional Queensland town.
The dramatic footage, captured by Barrier Reef Boats, shows the estimated 4m crocodile with the turtle in its jaws near Cardwell.
The footage, which has garnered significant attention, shows the croc swimming near the shore.
Residents have expressed shock and concern over the sighting, with some noting how close the crocodile is to the shoreline.
Sightings of saltwater crocodiles in the area are not uncommon with the predators known to inhabit coastal areas in northern Queensland, particularly around the Cardwell region.
These reptiles are opportunistic feeders, known to target a wide variety of prey, including fish, birds, and reptiles such as sea turtles.
It comes just a day after a separate incident where footage shows a 4m crocodile swimming through the Fitzroy River in Rockhampton with a large dog in its mouth.
“We are aware of and have reviewed a video circulating online of a crocodile which has killed a dog in the lower reaches of the Fitzroy River, and appreciate how distressing this will have been for the pet’s owners,” the DES spokesman said.
