A massive tree has snapped in two and fallen across the Kennedy Highway on the Kuranda Range, blocking the busy route in both directions.
Morning commuters were left stuck just after 6am on Thursday, March 13 when the tree and fallen debris completely obstructed the road.
Traffic came to a standstill from 6.30am, with Traffic Queensland confirming both lanes were closed to all traffic.
“Kennedy Highway, debris on road – road closed to all traffic, all directions,” QLD Traffic alerted on X.
Photos from the scene show the large tree sprawled across the highway, with some individuals appearing to attempt to move the debris.
However, due to the size of the tree, long lines of cars can already be seen in the images as motorists wait for authorities to clear the blockage.
Commuters were posting online just after 7am, some traffic Kuranda bound had been able to get through, yet travelers heading to Cairns are still waiting.
Traffic is now open to all lanes.
