Rhys James Flanagan of Smithfield charged with driving under the influence after driving recorded on dashcam

A man charged with trying to ram other cars off the road while allegedly more than three times the legal limit has had his matters mentioned in Cairns Magistrates Court.

A man alleged to have tried ramming other cars off the road while drunk has had his matters mentioned in Cairns Magistrates Court.

Rhys James Flanagan, 41, of Smithfield was charged with one count of driving under the influence.

Police said Mr Flanagan’s licence was suspended after he was charged on January 13.

He was not present in court on Monday and was represented by David Jenkins of Osborne Butler lawyers.

On January 13 a silver-coloured truck was recorded on another driver’s dashcam driving on the wrong side of Warner Rd, Gordonvale, prompting that road user to post the footage on social media.

“He’s got a carton of p--- on his lap, I’ll try and get his number plate. He has been tailgating every c--t,” the other road user was recorded saying on the dashcam.

A Queensland Police spokeswoman said officers had responded to multiple reports that a truck was being driven dangerously throughout the Cairns area.

The alleged drunk driver was intercepted by police on McLeod St on the evening of January 13 and taken to Cairns police station where he returned a BAC of 0.177.

His matter has been adjourned to be heard at Cairns Magistrates Court on February 27.
