THE PEOPLE of Cairns flooded our Facebook page with hundreds of photos of their adorable puppies but the readers have decided on the winner for the title of Cairns’ cutest dog.
Barking up a storm of votes online, five-month-old dachshund Frankie has taken home the win.
Frankie’s owner Tiah Mclean said she put a lot of effort into securing the title for her adorable little pup, taking no excuses from family and friends when drumming up the votes.
“I shared it on Facebook and told all my co-workers, family and friends they had to vote and I wouldn’t hear otherwise,” she said.
“She’s our only dog and she gets spoiled already so this is just adding to the list.”
Ms Mclean said there were many ways to describe Frankie but the best was as a “big personality in a very small dog.”
“She is very affectionate but she’s also a sook and she knows how to charm her way into getting what she wants,” she said.
“We’re trying not to let her sleep in the bed but she always wins her way in. She’ll sit at the door and look at us when she’s ready for bed. She doesn’t stop until we get up.”
While Frankie may act like a princess who loves a cuddle and nap, Ms Mclean said that’s not entirely the case when Frankie’s cheekier personality comes to play.
“She can be a ball of energy and loves to have a run around our big backyard, she goes absolutely nuts,” she said.
“The only issue is she thinks it’s a game when we need to get her inside.
“She grabs her big stick that is four times the size of her and just starts doing laps around us. The only way to get her when that starts is to let her tire herself out.
“I can’t complain too much though, she’s a gorgeous little dog.”
