A man in his 30s has sustained life-threatening injuries, and two others are being transported to hospital following a serious crash on the Atherton Tablelands.

At 4pm emergency services were called to a two-vehicle collision at Sluice Creek Rd in Evelyn.

A Queensland Ambulance Service spokesman confirmed three people, including a man in his 30s and two people in their 50s were being transported to hospital.

“We have reports of a male in 30s with chest, pelvis and leg injuries, a female in her 50s with chest and ankle injuries and a male in 50s with chest and abdominal injuries,” the spokesman said.

“The male patient in his 30s is being air-lifted in a potentially life-threatening condition to Cairns hospital, and the two patients in their 50s are both going to Atherton hospital in a stable condition.”

It is understood one patient was trapped within the wreckage following the crash about 500m south of the East Evelyn Rd.

The Rescue 510 helicopter left Cairns and at 4.30pm had arrived at the crash site.

“All patients will be transported to hospital, one via chopper and two via road,” the spokesman said.

Earlier, a QAS spokeswoman said initial reports showed patients were trapped in a vehicle.

“It sounds like multiple people are involved and we have the helicopter coming from Cairns,” she said.

Queensland Police Service has some personnel at the scene and other crews are currently en route.

“It might be a head-on according to preliminary information,” a QPS spokesman said.

“We still have a crew on the way but it’s still pretty fresh at this stage.

“It looks like a pretty significant crash.

“One of the vehicles is a sedan I can see.”

Police urged motorists to avoid the area and use alternative routes.
