A couple in their 80s have been flown to hospital after sustaining leg injuries while walking along a popular tourist track in Cape York.
A Queensland Ambulance Service spokesman confirmed the couple were transported via helicopter to Thursday Island hospital on Satuday evening.
It comes after one crew responded to reports of a woman with a leg injury at Somerset, along the Tip Walk Trail at 2.19pm on Saturday.
“It looks like she was walking along a walking track and had a fall where she sustained a leg injury,” the spokesman said.
“A second patient, a male in his 80s, also had a fall on the walking track.”
Both patients are in stable condition.
Somerset is a coastal locality located 995km north of Cairns and is best-known as the northern most tip of the Australian continent.
A rescue chopper has been called to extricate the patients, due to the location.
