With restrictions only being eased on Friday, Ms Carlon said a lot of people had come into her shop wanting last minute ideas.
“If you are caught last minute, get the fascinator first because it is the hardest one to find. Then the hunt for the perfect dress, shoes and bags,” she said.
Ms Carlon said it was important to keep shoes nude so the colour was all in the dress, fascinator and bag.
The focus is also on men’s fashion this year with many linen options on the table.
Victor Mellick Mens Fashions owner Victor Mellick said that the fashion depended on what buyers were looking for.
“I always suggest to dress for the climate. You can’t beat a beautiful sport cut or a blazer if you don’t want to wear a suit,” he said.
Mr Mellick said it was important to avoid thongs or sandals.
“You can also always add accessories to brighten things up,” he said.
Mr Mellick said that linen and cotton were in and that when the tie was picked it was important to pick a lively one that didn’t have a strict business look.
Businesses are excited that restrictions have been eased and they get to see everyone dolled up.
Woolshed owner Dominic Davies said that the racing season was always exciting.
“The timing is great, it makes it a lot easier to run a race public gathering without restrictions and makes for a much pleasant day for all the punters,” he said.
