A prepare to leave warning has been issued for parts of the Mareeba Shire, less than a week after a firefighting strike team was launched in the Far North.
The Queensland Fire Department issued an urgent warning to residents in Arriga, about 50kms as the crow flies west of Cairns at 11.38am on Tuesday morning due to a large, fast-moving fire near Kippen Drive.
Firefighters are working to contain the fire.

Residents should not expect a firefighter at your door.
Firefighting aircraft are helping ground crews.
An avoid smoke warning has also been issued for Wondecla, near Herberton as of 12.07pm on Tuesday.
QFD have confirmed smoke is currently affecting Wondecla, Kalunga and surrounding areas, from a fire burning near Springvale Road, Wondecla.
This fire is under control.
It comes two days after Strike Team Delta was deployed to the Atherton Tablelands after two large fires burned near the Herberton Range National Park and Silver Valley Road.
