Police have confirmed they know the identity of a man found dead on the sand along Cairns Esplanade.

Police have confirmed they know the identity of a man found dead on the sand along Cairns Esplanade on Thursday afternoon.

Around 4.35pm on March 30, several police cars and a number of officers coverged on the Cairns Esplanade, opposite the Cairns Hospital.

A police spokeswoman said the man was was dead about 4.30pm.

“A 60-year-old man was found deceased on the Cairns Esplanade on Thursday afternoon.

“He was discovered at 4.30pm by a passer-by on the beach.”

The death is not being treated as suspicious.

Police have advised they have identified the man and are attempting to contact his next of kin.”
