Paramedics transported a woman to Mossman Hospital after Julatten two-vehicle crash on Boxing Day

A major highway is closed after a four-wheel drive towing a boat jackknifed.

Emergency services rushed to several incidents in the Cairns region on Boxing Day, including a two-vehicle crash on the Tablelands, and an incident where a four-wheel drive and the boat it was towing jackknifed on the Kuranda Range.

These incidents came after a horror few weeks on the road, with drivers are being warned to drive to the conditions as more wet weather is expected.

Kuranda Range – Car and boat jackknife

Shortly after 4pm, Queensland Ambulance Service confirmed they were sending multiple ambulances to an incident which involved a four-wheel drive towing a boat on the Kuranda Range.

The road remains shut to traffic as at 6pm.

A Queensland Police Service spokeswoman said there was no update as to when it would reopen.

“At around 4.09pm we were called to a single vehicle believed to be towing a boat and hanging over the edge of the top of the Range Road at Kuranda,” she said.

A Queensland Fire and Emergency Services representative said at least two crews had been assigned to the incident.

“The crews responding are from Smithfield and the rescue vehicle from Cairns Station,” he said.

“It appears that everyone is out of the vehicle, which is close to the bank of the road and partly blocking the lane.

“Looks like both directions of the road will likely close to allow for the vehicle and boat to removed stabilised.”

Julatten – Two vehicle crash

A Queensland Ambulance Service representative said paramedics attended a two vehicle incident on the Rex Highway (Mossman Mount Molloy Rd) at Julatten north west of Cairns.

“Around 12.30pm we were called to a two-vehicle crash on the Rex Hwy at Julatten,” she said.

“A man with leg injuries has been transported by road to Mossman Hospital.”

“Police have advised us that both vehicles are off the road and the it is open.”

A Queensland Fire and Emergency Services representative confirmed that a single crew from Mossman Fire Station attended the incident and left the scene around 1.14pm.

At around 1.40pm emergency serves were called to an incident and paramedics assessed four people at a single vehicle crash on Herberton St, Mareeba.

A QAS representative confirmed paramedics were at the incident at 1.41pm.

“When we arrived at the scene of a single vehicle crash there were four occupants who all had got out,” she said.

“One lane of the road was blocked eastbound.

“There appear to be no serious injuries.”

A Queensland Police representative said that officers were at the scene around 1.45pm.

“We responded to a report of one vehicle over the edge of the bank of the road,” she said.

“The vehicle is off the road with four occupants out and no-one claiming any injuries.

Earlier the Bureau of Meteorology predicted showers and possible thunderstorms across the region for Monday, it also warned of more rain to come during the week.
