SPECIALITY candy products sourced from all over the globe now available at a new CBD location are guaranteed to deliver the ultimate sugar rush.
One year on from its Night Market opening a new Candy Lane outlet opened in Lake St’s Oceana Walk Arcade on December 17.
Across the two outlets more than 300 different candy products offer a trip down memory lane for older sweet tooths as well as new products for the younger generation.
Candy Lane owner Luke Nucifora said the second store opening was the next logical step after the runaway success of the Night Market outlet.
“So this is more space and allows me to branch out into some new stuff that I’m not able to (offer) at the Night Market location,” he said.
“I’m not at the size where I could import directly myself but I do try to source locally.
“I try and keep the money in Cairns as much as I can. But suppliers in both Sydney and Brisbane have helped me with the American stuff.
“I’ve tried to specialise in things that I remember as a kid because I know many others will share the nostalgia.
“But I’ve also branched into a number of popular different types of candy particularly what you might see on TikTok that’s blowing up.
“Candy is quite big on TikTok and a lot of people will come in looking for certain lines of products based on what’s popular on social media streams.”
Mr Nucifora said the soft but chewy sour candy called TNT Turbo Tubes were among the shop’s bestsellers but everything from gummies, to chocs, sours, sherbets, Pez, push pops, rope candy, licorice, lollipops and the world’s biggest gobstoppers were also in stock.
Most products can be loaded into bags and price is calculated by weight.
“Pick and mix from almost all of our range,” he said.
“And then there is a select few items that are individually priced.”
The Night Market store opening in 2020 was Mr Nucifora’s first foray into business and now he hoped to tap a fresh demographic from the new Lake St outlet.
“At the night markets, you’ve got the natural flow of people coming in,” Mr Nucifora said.
“And we’re able to capitalise on that. They would see our store with the bright interior and it would draw their attention.
“Whereas here we will be building up our customer base with a more of a traditional approach to business and trying to promote ourselves, particularly on social media streams.”
