TWO Far North businesswomen have partnered up to open a new cafe in the heart of the city.

Annette West, the owner of Sharbella Espresso, and The Nest owner Wendy Kumma have joined forces to open the new business.

Called The Nook, the cafe has launched on Lake St in the site formerly occupied by The Office coffee shop.

Ms West said they hoped to bring a fresh vibe to the city that was different to other cafes.

“One of the biggest things we want to do is create an atmosphere of knowing people personally. That’s why I do what I do,” Ms West said.

“We like to build relationships with customers. We like having a place where you know customers by name.”

Ms Kumma said that after owning Whitfield venue The Nest, she felt like she wanted a new challenge in the city.

“I thought I could replicate the vibe in the city. It is the same coffee, same friendly service but the decor is a little bit more chic,” Ms Kumma said.

The new design has been fitted out with some very personal touches in order to display the women’s creative touches.

“We’ve been very personal about it. I painted the mural on the wall. Annette is sewing the cushions together to make a couch and I created a hanging feature,” Ms Kumma said.

The business owners are great friends and they both jumped at the opportunity to launch the cafe.

Ms Kumma wants the cafe to offer a homely vibe where the customers feel valued once they walk through the door.

She said that so far the cafe had been a hit, with many customers returning.

“Every day the cafe is building. We are getting repeat customers and that is the biggest compliment we could ask for. If people keep coming back then obviously you are doing something right,” Ms Kumma said.

The Nook will have light meals from the cabinet available including bagels, croissants, paninis, danishes, brownies and more.

The cafe is located at 34 Lake St and is open 6.30am to 1.30pm Monday to Friday.
