THE heartbroken mother of Cairns teen, Jayden Dau, allegedly murdered in a wild brawl at a New Year party has spoken out about the shock loss of her “handsome young man.”

Late Saturday Cairns police laid murder a charge in the wake of a birthday party that allegedly got out of hand and turned violent after being shared on social media.

Caught up in the melee, 17-year-old Mr Dau was rushed to Cairns Hospital by friends but never recovered from a knife wound to the stomach.

Mother Harriet Dau said her boy with the world at his feet had just got his driver’s licence and was applying for construction work before his young life was cut short.

“He is always going to be my handsome young man but I’m going to be unable to see him in the future,” she told 7 News.

“I am never going to see my kid.”

The best mate of Jayden Dau, who was also allegedly stabbed with a bottle at the party, posted a simple but moving tribute to his best mate on social media.

“Never forgotten,” the post read.

A 14-year-old boy from Edmonton charged with murder appeared in Cairns Children’s Court on Monday.

He was remanded in custody to reappear on March 18.

Another boy aged 17 and two men aged 18 and 28 were charged with obstructing police, after officers were called to break up the brawl about 1am. The 18-year-old and the 28-year-old, both from Manoora, are due to appear in the Cairns Magistrates Court on January 18.

Ms Dau was at the Cairns Courthouse on Monday but was not permitted into the Children’s Court.

Overwhelmed with grief, the mother said she would never forget receiving news of her son’s death.

“I went blank, I was shocked. Entering the emergency hospital thinking that you are going to walk in and see your son sitting there and telling mum ‘it’s going to be OK’,” she said.

“But it wasn’t like that.

“A mother’s love is always a mother’s love, you can never take that away.”
