A 68-year-old man has been charged following an alleged shooting incident of another man at a remote Far North property.

Police allege a 44-year-old Silver Valley man, Andrew Shade attended a Shady Creek Road address and became involved in an altercation with the 68-year-old, who was known to him at about 9.30pm on May 13.

During the incident, the younger man allegedly sustained gunshot wounds to his abdomen and calf.

He drove himself home before calling police, with emergency services rushing to the scene.

The man was driven by ambulance to Mareeba Airport and then flown to Cairns Hospital for surgery.

He is in a serious but stable condition as of Wednesday May 14.

It’s understood police were considering activating a PSPA exclusion zone surrounding the Silver Valley property where the gunman was held up.

However, following protracted negotiations with police, the 68-year-old man, now identified as Ross Anthony Moors was taken into custody at a Shady Creek Road property just before midday without incident.

He has since been charged with one count of grievous bodily harm.

The man was refused bail and is due to appear in the Mareeba Magistrates Court May 15.
