UPDATE: A teenager has been arrested and charged with murder after an alleged brutal stabbing at a Caravonica home, as police launch a probe into the homicide.
A crime scene has been established in the quiet Cairns suburb after a 34-year-old man was killed on Friday night.
It is alleged he was stabbed to death by a 19-year-old man, who is in police custody.
Far North District Crime Detective Inspector Mick Searle said it is believed the incident was in relation to a family disturbance.
He said when police arrived at 9.20pm they found the victim suffering from stab wounds.
The man died from his injuries sometime around 10pm, despite the efforts of both police and paramedics.
It’s believed a knife was used in the incident.
Detective Inspector Searle said police located a 19-year-old man at the address, who has been arrested and charged with one count of murder.
He is due to appear in the Cairns Magistrates Court on Monday morning.
EARLIER: Queensland Police are investigating the circumstances of the sudden passing of a 37-year-old male after they were called to a Caravonica address at around 9.30pm on Friday night.
The man was found with critical injuries.
Emergency crews attempted to save the man, however he died at the scene from his injuries.
A police spokeswoman said investigations are ongoing.
“A 19-year-old man is assisting police with their inquiries,” she said.
