Swimmer found dead at Lake Tinaroo, Yungaburra
The body of a 62-year-old man who failed to resurface after he went missing in a Far North Qld dam has been found, authorities have confirmed.

A 62-year-old man who was reported missing in the water at Tinaroo Dam on Sunday afternoon has been found dead, authorities have confirmed.
Search and rescue efforts to locate the man who was reported missing in the water at Tinaroo Dam on Sunday afternoon, resumed on Monday morning.
Emergency services were called just after 3.30pm following reports a 62-year-old man had failed to resurface after swimming out to assist two children on kayaks.
Police originally reported a 62-year-old man had fallen from his kayak and failed to resurface.
It is understood he swam into the water to help the children who made it safely to shore.
The man did not resurface.
The search continued until 8pm on Sunday and reconvened at first light on Monday.
The man’s death is not being treated as suspicious, and police will prepare a report for the coroner.
A Queensland Police Service spokesperson said multiple assets were deployed to assist in the search, including police on foot, Cairns Water Police, QGAIR Rescue Helicopter 510, and the Queensland Fire Department’s Swift Water Rescue.
Water police and dive squad were called in to assist with the search, along with SES volunteers and QFD Swiftwater Rescue crews.
Support services have been offered to the family of the man.
Yungaburra local and hospitality employee Lynette Barkley said the tragic event was a reminder for families to be vigilant around bodies of water, particularly throughout the school holidays.
“Everyone coming to creeks and dams and lakes need to keep an eye on your kids and keep safety vests on them while they’re paddling,” Ms Barkley said.
“With everyone coming out over the Easter holidays, just be safe and be careful around the water.”
It comes more than two years after 49-year-old Atherton man Jeffrey Snelling drowned in the lake after saving his two sons from difficulty.
Lake Tinaroo is a popular swimming spot on the Atherton Tablelands.
