Aussie rock band Grinspoon didn’t mean to make their fans wait 12 years for new music.
Time just happened to get away from them.
The popular rock band will embark on their latest tour with their new album ‘Whatever, whatever’ in September, with a performance at the Cairns Brothers Leagues Club on October 12.
Bass player Joe Hansen said the long hiatus between records was not intentional.
“We didn’t mean it to be 12 years apart. Things happen, time flies and all of a sudden we’re like, well we’ve gotta do something soon,” Mr Hansen said.
The album marks their first record in 12 years, since the release of their previous album Black Rabbits.
Mr Hansen said the band had recorded a few songs before Covid, however the release was delayed due to the pandemic.
“Our single ‘unknown pretenders’ was the first song we wrote pre-Covid so it’s the genesis of the record and harks back to our original sound,” he said.
“It’s got that strong, raw, up-tempo energy from our first album.”
In keeping with the nostalgic vibe, Mr Hansen said the band was excited to hit the bitumen for their 45 gig tour.
“We’ll be jumping in the van and driving from show to show just like the old days,” he said.
Mostly, Mr Hansen said he was excited to share the new music with the fans.
“They can expect an energetic, raw, powerful rock show and we’re excited to bring the new and old tunes to the fans,” he said.
Tickets are available via Oztix.
