A Trinity Beach family desperately tried to resuscitate a man who was found unresponsive in the water on Saturday morning.

Emergency services were called to Trinity Beach on Saturday, just before 9am, to reports of a “water-related incident”.

A man in his 40s was later declared dead at the scene.

Janelle Dockray was with her family on a walk along the beach in the early morning when they noticed a person lying “motionless” on the shore.

“We were walking along the beach with our two young children and our dog when I first noticed what looked like someone swimming in the stinger net,” she said.

“As we continued walking along the shoreline, we got closer to the stinger net and then spotted a person lying motionless on the shore, inside the net.”

Because of her extensive medical experience as a pharmacist and work volunteering for Queensland Surf Lifesaving, Ms Dockray quickly realised the situation was serious.

“My husband and I rushed to the man’s aid,” she said.

“We ran down immediately to check for a response, we pulled him out of the water and onto the beach, and my husband started CPR right away.

“I’m a pharmacist, and trained in first aid, and have spend lots of time on the beach.”

Ms Dockray said she then asked her daughter to run up to the cafe and tell someone them to call triple-0.

The couple continued performing CPR as members of the public began to gather and offer further assistance.

“Other people stepped in to help with CPR and not long after an on-duty lifeguard arrived and used a defibrillator,” Ms Dockray said.

A doctor in the area also assisted until the paramedics arrived.

A Queensland Ambulance Service spokeswoman confirmed crews were called to a “post-immersion” incident at Trinity Beach about 8.58am on Saturday.

“One patient was treated for life-threatening injuries off the waters at Vasey Esplanade, Trinity Beach,” she said.

Later a Queensland Police spokesman said officers would be preparing a report for the coroner following the non-suspicious death of a man in his 40s.

“Emergency services were called after the man was pulled unresponsive from the ocean at Trinity Beach around 8.50am where he was declared deceased,” the spokesman said.
