Two cousins allegedly “took turns” raping a young woman after she refused to engage in a threesome, a District Court jury has heard.

Francis Kevin Carriage, 27, and Jamie Bray, 26, have each pleaded not guilty to three charges of rape.

Crown prosecutor Tegan Grasso told the court the woman was invited to a home after she messaged Mr Carriage at 12.02am one evening, where the cousins “took advantage” of her, got her alone in a room and “took turns raping her”.

Late on the evening in question, the woman was out with a friend when she messaged Mr Carriage.

Mr Carriage told her to come around to the house he was at and offered to pick her up, Ms Grasso said.

The complainant told Mr Carriage to “come I’ll give you a present” in messages from the app Snapchat read in court.

Mr Carriage met her in a taxi and the pair went back to a unit.

Mr Carriage’s cousin Jamie Bray was also present at the unit where the three of them “were dancing, laughing and having a good time” before Mr Carriage propositioned her, Ms Grasso told the jury.

Mr Carriage allegedly told the complainant “it would make me really happy if you let me and my cousin f*** you”, with the woman telling them she would only have sex with Mr Carriage, not with the both of them, and not with Mr Bray.

Ms Grasso said the two men tried to convince her asking if she would prefer “swapsies”, and she immediately said no.

Francis Kevin Carriage, 27, and Jamie Bray, 26, have both pleaded not guilty to three counts of rape.

The complainant then went into a room with Mr Carriage where they had consensual sex, however Mr Bray walked into the room asking for a charger but remained, rubbing his penis before removing his pants and allegedly forcing the complainant to perform oral sex on him, Ms Grasso said.

Ms Grasso told the court the woman froze and didn’t know what to do.

The two men then “took turns having sex with her” which “got more rough” including “biting and slapping”.

The woman eventually said she had to stop and they did.

The pair have each been charged with three counts of rape, the first is when the Crown alleges Mr Bray orally raped her, aided by Mr Carriage, and the other two counts relate to when the two men allegedly had non-consensual sex with her.

Ms Grasso told the court the woman waited till the men fell asleep before she went to a friend’s house and told them “she thinks she has been raped”.

The complainant was taken to hospital later that day where she was assessed for injuries including early signs of bruising where she conducted an interview with a plain clothes police officer.

Mr Bray’s defence counsel Isaac Munsie conceded that his client did have sex with the woman but will argue that it was entirely consensual.

Mr Carriage’s defence counsel Rachel Clark did not make an opening submission.

The court was then closed while the complainant gave her evidence.

Over the course of the trial, Ms Grasso said the jury would hear from the complainant’s friends, her mother, doctors from the hospital, and police officers.

The trial continues.
