Cairns restaurants: Hog’s Breath hosts special reopening party at new Shields Street cafe

A much-loved Cairns restaurant will host a special reopening party - and longtime fans can nab a free beer, if they can fulfil a particular request.

Cairns Hogs Breath fans are being encouraged to dress up in their best merchandise for a free beer at the store’s reopening on February 25 at Shields Street.

The two-hour event is open to the public, with raffles and various prizes to be won.

Hog’s Breath Cafe CEO Steve Spurgin said anyone who showed up wearing a Hog’s Breath logo would be entitled to a free glass of Hog’s Head Lager.

“We’re saying that if you wear your gear, you get a beer,” Mr Spurgin said.

“Hog’s Breath have sponsored a lot of cricket teams, netball teams, all sorts. So if anybody’s got anything with out logo on it, or our merchandise and wear it, they’ll get a free beer.”

Hog’s Breath Cairns store manager Adam Zakharoff said he was excited to see the range of merchandise people will wear or bring with them.

“We found that a lot of people have the original membership cards from the 1990s. So I reckon there’s a lot of gear out like that out there that people are going to dress up and come and try our Hog’s Head Lager,” Mr Zakharoff said.

The family friendly two-hour event will run from 2.30pm to 4.30pm, featuring the Hog’s famous garlic bread, chocolate mud cake and a range of tasters from the menu.
“We’ll have some little pieces for people to try and walk around,” he said.

“We’ll have some balloons for the kids, lucky draws and things like that”.
