Police tracked a stolen vehicle through the suburbs of Cairns and requested assistance from the Rescue 510 helicopter after an officer was almost run over on Wednesday morning.

At 10.10am officers interrupted a group breaking into a house at McGuane Cl, Brinsmead.

While fleeing the area in a late model Toyota Corolla, it’s alleged the driver of the car steered the vehicle toward a police officer.

The car was reported as driving dangerously on the wrong side of the road.

Police reportedly suspended a road pursuit of the car, with the chopper taking over tracking.

At 11am the Rescue 510 tracker revealed the aircraft doing loops over Kanimbla, Manunda and Mooroobool.
