A MAN on chemotherapy has described how scared he is in his own home after he has constantly been abused by people hanging around the area.

David Jones, of Manunda, said the past couple of months had been rough on him in a time that had already been difficult.

“I’m too frightened to be at the property, last week I stayed away,” he said.

“I am on chemotherapy at the moment, the thing is I really need to get sleep. If I sleep in the bedroom, there’s noise from people hanging around.

“It’s a nightmare – I can’t live in my own home. If I go out at the front door, I am abused.

“It’s a nice block of units and it’s a nice place to live.”

Mr Jones believed there was a drug dealer nearby who had gained lots of traction to the area.

“Since then its been a nightmare. There’s a 24-hour drug dealer bringing people including quite young kids in cars sometimes up to five at a time, people on scooters, between two and five in the morning,” he said.

“In the daytime when I go out, I’ve been verbally assaulted seven times by the people hanging around because they are gathered around.”

“On Saturday and in the day time one of the people came out and I was in the car. They said “what the f*** you looking at ya c***’ and kicked my car in.”

Mr Jones said he finds he has to keep getting away from the situation.

“I’m a long-term Cairns resident I’ve been here 33 years and I’ve never experienced anything like this,” he said.

“This is out of control. When someone can’t stay within their own house and feel safe. That is just bizarre.”

Mr Jones said the behaviour in the area was the worst he had experienced.

“They did break the security screen door lock,” he said.

“Anything that’s not tied down outside disappears, all my gardening equipments gone, a pull out retractable hose pipe is gone.

“Everybody in the building is in the same boat, nobody comes outside in the garden any more.”
