Three local horse racing enthusiasts have been named as the ambassadors for this year’s Cairns Cup Carnival.
Industry figure Dannielle Atkinson is joined by local businesspeople Brett and Tina Cahill to promote this year’s festival of racing and fashion.
The Carnival will take place over consecutive Saturdays at Cairns Jockey Club, with Ladies Day on August 17 followed by the Cairns Cup itself on August 24.
“We always try and aim to go local and we went with local racing and fashion enthusiast Dannielle Atkinson who has been racing all her life,” Cairns Jockey Club general manager Cameron Riches said.
“Tina and Brett are local businesspeople and racehorse owners who are long term sponsors of the club, so it was great to give them the opportunity as well and we believe they’re a great fit.”
Ms Atkinson spoke of her excitement at being appointed as an ambassador.
“I am thrilled to partner with the CJC in this ambassador role,” she said.
“The Cairns Cup Carnival always features tremendous fashions, high class racing and excellent hospitality.
“For someone that enjoys all facets of the day it is an excellent event.”
The move to have three ambassadors is a departure from tradition.
Along with the two race days, the Cup Carnival will feature a Calcutta lunch event on August 23 with appearances from three-time Melbourne Cup winner Damien Oliver, fellow legendary jockey Robert Thompson and rugby league stars Josh Dugan and James Segeyaro.
