A teenage boy was allegedly attacked threatened with a hammer and pliers at a busy intersection in Cairns before his bike was stolen while his friends watched helplessly.

The incident is alleged to have occurred at 5.30pm near the intersection of Anderson and Pease streets on January 15.

Four boys, aged between 11 years-old and 16-years, were charged on Thursday, January 24 in connection with the alleged assault.

Authorities alleged, a 16-year-old, two 15-year-olds, and an 11-year-old boy punched the 15-year-old victim multiple times in the head while threatening him with a hammer and a pair of pliers, before stealing his bike.

Police further alleged the group of teenagers also threatened the victim’s two friends, which stopped them from assisting their friend during the robbery.

The boys have been charged with a total of nineteen charges resulting from this incident, including ten counts of armed robbery, six counts of deprivation of liberty, and three counts of assault.

The 16-year-old boy and 15-year-old boy were refused bail and are due to appear in the Cairns Childrens Court this Friday, January 24.

The other 15-year-old boy and the 11-year-old boy are due to appear at a later date.
