It’s time for young Territorians to get geeky, show off their love of cosplay, gaming, or all things pop culture at the annual Geektacular.

Jam-packed with a market, a cosplay competition, a board games arena, and Dungeons and Dragons sessions, the program has been designed “by young people, for young people”.

Geektacular is a highlight of the Top End school holiday program, City of Darwin acting chief executive Matt Grassmayr said.

“Geektacular is created by young people for young people, and we are incredibly proud of the emerging producer team who have designed a creative, fun and inclusive event,” he said.

“[The event] is a great example of young people contributing to the creative and cultural life of our city.

“Geektacular offers a great opportunity to connect with like-minded individuals and celebrate everything that makes geek culture so fun.

“Geektacular aims to connect young people with our libraries, which are a fantastic free community resource that can be enjoyed by people of any age.”

The upcoming event will also feature an art exhibition from young local artists, plenty of gaming options – including an e-sports competition – karaoke sessions and cooking workshops.

Returning this year will be the popular Lo-fi Lounge, especially designed for people who have sensory sensitivities, with quiet activities and headphones offering a choice of fantasy soundtracks, nature sounds and lo-fi music.

Geektacular is a 15-25 event, bringing together young people from around the Top End for a free, fun afternoon out.

This year’s event will be held at the Casuarina Library on Saturday, January 18 from 2pm to 6pm.
