A man has been taken to hospital after he was found sleeping on a crane’s ballast on the Gold Coast.
Emergency services were called to the site on the corner of Charles Ave and Old Burleigh Rd at Broadbeach, after a member of the public looked up and saw a man lying on the crane at about 7.30am on Friday, a Queensland Police Service spokesman said.
The man eventually woke and climbed down the ladder with the help of technical rescue crews, a Queensland Fire Department spokesman said.
He was taken to Gold Coast University Hospital in a stable condition, a Queensland Ambulance Service spokesman said.
The QPS spokesman said there would be no charges in relation to the matter, given it was mental-health related, although warned police did not endorse this behaviour.
The ballast of the crane is the weight at the bottom that keeps the crane from toppling.
