Brisbane couple’s hilarious Salt-N-Pepa wedding dance fail
These newlyweds picked a beautiful Coldplay song for their first dance. But after an awkward playlist glitch, what started playing was very different indeed.

This Sunshine Coast couple are proof that long-distance love can work.
After meeting at university in 2013, Kaitlin Castle and Andrew Cook started dating two years later and spent many years in different states due to their work.
“We’ve been together six years and have only lived together for two and a half,” bride Kaitlin says.
“As it is, we are still doing long distance but we’ve bought a house at the Sunshine Coast where we hope to live together soon.”
The couple married on April 10 at Royston House in the Scenic Rim’s Innisplain, in a romantic, bohemian wedding.
They danced their first song – Green Eyes by Coldplay – in front of 45 guests, after a slight glitch with the playlist amusingly saw Push It by Salt-N-Pepa blast out for 30 seconds.
The self-professed “huge foodies” honeymooned in Tasmania.
How did you meet?
We met in 2013 at a uni orientation, where we exchanged numbers and attended classes together. We started dating in 2015, we spent years doing long distance for work.
How did he propose?
We were in New Zealand in August. Andrew suggested we go for a walk one afternoon around Queenstown Gardens. We stopped to look at the view of The Remarkables before he got down on one knee and proposed.
What was the standout moment of the day?
Our ceremony was so beautiful and emotional, but it also set a very relaxed tone for the rest of the day. It was a very transparent and personalised ceremony so we felt like we could just be ourselves and there wasn’t any pressure.
Our photographer asked us if we had any special surprises in our first dance, and we said we didn’t. We were on the dance floor waiting to do our first dance, the MC was taking ages to figure out the playlist and somehow selected Push It by Salt-N-Pepa … which took everyone by surprise!
The song played for 30 seconds before Andrew had to help him find the song! Round two was, thankfully, a success.
What would you do differently?
Not a single thing. It was important to us both to only have our favourite things on our wedding day. We went to a lot of effort sourcing a six-course menu, our favourite wines and cheeses and special apple pies.
Combining our accommodation and wedding venue was simply the best. We had so many of our beautiful friends helping us set up and co-ordinate the weekend, we felt so loved.
We had a post-wedding brunch at the venue the following morning and it was a really relaxing way to wrap up the weekend.
What would you spend more or less on?
Nothing. But we will never regret how much we spent on food. We are huge foodies and our first priority was to find a venue and a caterer that could give us a menu that guests would talk about.
One thing you wish people had told you about planning a wedding?
How lost you can get in planning and how many tiny decisions you have to make! It really took us by surprise and it can be so time consuming.
It seems simple at first … book a venue, photographer, celebrant etc.
But the wedding industry is booming with so many wonderful suppliers and additions that it’s very easy to get carried away!
Best advice for other couples planning a wedding?
Everyone has a small role to play in co-ordinating your wedding day and making it run smoothly.
If you’re planning a wedding with a lot of moving parts and outside suppliers, print off all information that is related to your day including any contingency plans, Q&As, times and contact information of family and friends.
Give these to all of your suppliers, venue and bridal party so everyone is on the same page and can take care of any hiccups for you.
