A shocking video has revealed the chaos that unfolded on the rooftop of a luxury building on Australia Day as partygoers urinated onto the street.

Police were called to a multimillion-dollar apartment block on Jefferson Lane in Palm Beach, on the glittering Gold Coast, on January 26 after reports of an Australia Day party gone wrong.

A video captured by witnesses shows three young men standing on top of a barbecue area on the rooftop of the building without any guardrails.

The men, one of whom is shirtless, appear to be intoxicated and stumbling as they peer over the edge of the tall building.

Witnesses told the Gold Coast Bulletin they were worried the “kids” were highly intoxicated and could fall from the seven-storey building.

“I started worrying about them falling off and hitting other people,” one witness said.

“People started calling the police and then they started throwing bottles off.”

Witnesses said they saw people urinating from the penthouse floor onto the street, and one was even captured in the video of the out-of-control party.

The two-level penthouse of the luxury building sold for $3.9m in 2021 and boasts a large balcony.

Outside the building, bottles were smashed onto the street and in the entrance to the apartment block.

The video also shows a young man forcibly ripping a street sign out of the ground and carrying it towards the entrance of the building with the spike aimed at the door.

Witnesses told the Gold Coast Bulletin that residents locked the doors to the building in order to prevent more mayhem, so the youths started “protesting” outside.

“I think (the young man with the spike) was going to throw it through the window. Luckily one of his mates stopped him,” a witness told the masthead.

“I think they (the youths) were smashing bottles against the window, trying to get in.

“It was pretty hairy there for a bit.”

The chaos ended when Queensland Police attended the property about 4.30pm and dispersed the crowd.

No charges were laid, but a police spokesperson said officers are still investigating reports of theft at the luxury building.

Police believe the young people had been invited to a party in the apartment block by an adult resident.

Some of the revellers are reported to be as young as 14 years old.
