A man, reportedly known to police, has escaped with minor injuries after being shot in an apparent ambush in the affluent harbourside Sydney suburb of Kirribilli.
Police are hunting for two men after the incident shocked local residents of Upper Pitt St made multiple reports of shots being fire about 4.10pm on Wednesday.
Officers found a man, believed to be aged in his 30s, with a minor leg wound but he declined medical assistance.
“It’s unclear what caused his injury,” NSW Police said in a statement.
The Daily Telegraph has reported the man is a former bikie and is refusing to co-operate with police.
“A crime scene was established and an investigation into the incident is underway.”
The street is blocks away from the Prime Minister’s residence at Kirribilli House and near an prestigious boys school.
Authorities are also responding to a car fire in a garage on Raymond Rd in Neutral Bay and whether it has any connection to the shooting.
Police said the man is believed to be in his 30s and declined medical assistance after sustaining a minor leg wound.
Local residents were shaken by the shooting in the up-market suburb.
“It’s pretty unexpected for a nice suburb like this one,” Charlotte Beatty told the ABC.
Another resident said it was unusual for the area.
“I’ve never known a shooting to happen in Kirribilli,” he told ABC News.
