NSW Police investigate alleged attack at Tweed City Shopping Centre

Police are on the hunt for two men who might be able to assist with their investigation into an alleged assault outside a shopping centre.

Police are appealing to the community to help find two men following an alleged assault with a tomahawk outside a shopping centre.

Emergency services were called following reports a 25-year-old man was injured during an altercation at Tweed City shopping centre on Minjungbal Dr, Tweed Heads South about 3.30pm on Friday.

When Tweed/Byron Police District officers arrived at the shopping centre, they were told several people were allegedly involved in the altercation.

The 25-year-old man was treated at the scene by NSW Ambulance paramedics for facial injuries, before he was taken to Gold Coast University Hospital.

It’s understood the man reportedly required surgery to mend a laceration near his right eye.

Police have since seized a tomahawk for forensic examination.

As investigations into the incident continue, police have released images of two men who might be able to assist with inquiries.

The first man is described as being of Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander appearance, aged in his 20s, with short dark hair, medium build wearing a black jacket, grey pants and green Nike shoes.

The second man is described as being of Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander appearance, aged in his 20s, with long dark hair, medium build wearing a multi coloured football shirt with the number 10 on it, the Aboriginal flag and cream pants joins in.

Following the alleged attack, many people took to social media to share their concern about a spike in violence in their community.

One person commented that it was “scary” going to the shops these days.

“Every day a stabbing, bashing, an axe attack a carjacking … unhinged,” the person said.
