Tributes are flowing after a young boy was killed in what police believe was an “unintentional discharge of a firearm” in regional NSW.

Mohamed Fattah, 9, was fatally wounded at a property on Fernleigh Close in Windellama on Sunday morning.

According to NSW Police, the boy was treated for serious neck wounds but died at the scene.

Officers were told a nine-year-old boy had been injured after a firearm was accidentally discharged, according to a NSW Police spokesman.

Loved ones expressed shock at Mohamed’s death on social media, with one person sharing “I miss you so much, u (sic) were like a brother to me”.

Another said; “my cousin, I miss him so much”.

Mohamed’s mother, Mariam, told The Daily Telegraph the tragic incident had rocked her family.

“He was loved by everyone, he was a very cheeky, happy boy,” she told the masthead.

An investigation into the cause of the incident was launched under Strike Force Dalzeill, with a 14-year-old boy and a 33-year-old man at the scene.

A man and a teenager have been charged following the incident.

The teenager was charged with possess unauthorised firearm and was granted conditional bail.

He is set appear before a children’s court.

The 33-year-old man was charged with allow unauthorised person to possess firearm and not keep firearm safely.

He will face Goulburn Local Court on May 14.

Windellama has a population of 413 people, according to the 2021 census, with about 100 families and 316 private dwellings.
