Next move for P-plater accused of causing horror Hornsby crash in which pregnant mum was killed
The P-plater who allegedly caused the horror crash in which an expectant mother was killed has signalled his next court move.
The young driver who allegedly caused the horrific traffic crash in which mother-to-be Samanvitha Dhareshwar was killed will apply to be released on bail later this week, a court has been told.
Ms Dhareshwar, 33, and her unborn child were killed during an accident outside a carpark on George St, Hornsby on Friday night.
Police said a Kia Carnival slowed to let Ms Dhareshwar and her family cross the footpath.
It’s alleged that a BMW sedan, driven by Aaron Papazoglu, 19, collided with the Kia, causing it to move forward and fatally strike Ms Dhareshwar.
Paramedics treated Ms Dhareshwar at the scene before she was rushed to Westmead Hospital, where she and her unborn child died.
Mr Papazoglu was not present in Sydney Downing Centre Local Court at John Maddison Tower on Tuesday morning as his matter was mentioned.
His solicitor, Chris Kalpage, told the court that his client would apply to be released on bail on Friday.
Mr Papazoglu, a P-plater from Wahroonga, was arrested early on Saturday morning.
He faces charges of dangerous driving occasioning death, negligent driving occasioning death and causing the loss of a foetus – death of a pregnant woman.
Mr Papazoglu has not entered any pleas.
Floral tributes and heartfelt messages have been left at the scene of the accident.
“I pray for you and your little one that you are held with love as you leave this world … Words can’t describe how sorry I am that this has happened to you,” one message read.
Assistant Commissioner David Driver described the scene as “very confronting” for first responders, highlighting the shocking circumstances of the collision.
Police urge anyone with information to contact Hornsby Police or Crime Stoppers.
Zoe’s Law, which came into effect in NSW in 2022, allows for harsher penalties for crimes that cause the death of an unborn child, with offenders facing up to three extra years in prison on top of the underlying sentence for dangerous or negligent driving if convicted.
