Hunt for prisoner who has escaped from Townsville correctional centre

Police are searching for a 24-year-old man who escaped from a major regional prison.

A manhunt is under way for a prisoner who has escaped a northern Queensland correctional centre.

Police are warning the public assistance not to approach the 24-year-old man who escaped from Townsville Correctional Centre on Saturday, July 13.

He is described as Aboriginal, approximately 165cm tall, with a slim build, short brown hair and brown eyes.

He has several distinctive facial tattoos, including ‘Menace’ below his right eye and ‘Loyalty’ above his left eye.

Investigators believe the man may be in the Townsville area.

“If you see this man or know his whereabouts, do not approach him, contact triple-0 (000) immediately,” Queensland Police said in a statement.
