Elderly man allegedly dragged from car, assaulted in robbery

The 89-year-old suffered injuries to his left wrist and hip after he was allegedly dragged out of the car, which police say was then stolen.

An 89-year-old was allegedly dragged from his car and assaulted in a horror aggravated robbery in Perth’s southeast.

Police will allege a man in his 70s was approached by an unknown man outside his Dawson St home in Armadale about 2.25pm on Tuesday.

His phone was stolen and the alleged offender then left the address following a verbal altercation.

He then went to a Benjamin Street address about 10 minutes later and approached an 89-year-old man also unknown to him just after he had parked his car in his carport.

He dragged the man out of the car before pushing him to the ground.

The accused then allegedly stole the 89-year-old’s car.

The 89-year-old went to hospital to receive treatment for injuries to his left wrist and left hip.

Police found the accused at a Gosnells address on Wednesday, with the stolen car also located nearby in Gosnells.

A 32-year-old Saint James man was charged with one count each of aggravated robbery, steal motor vehicle, stealing, and attempted home burglary with intent.

He is set to front the Armadale Magistrates Court on Thursday.
