A horrifying incident involving a chainsaw has left a man, aged in his late 70s, with serious injuries in Sydney’s northwest.
The man had been using the chainsaw on his Park Rd property in Kenthurst about 11.30am when he became involved in an accident involving the powerful motor saw.
The man suffered “heavy lacerations to his arms” during the incident and was assisted by nearby members of the public.
An off-duty nurse was able to provide first aid to the man before emergency services arrived, which included the application of a tourniquet.
A photograph taken at the scene shows a tree in the man’s suburban yard dripping with blood, as the chainsaw sat propped on a fence nearby.
The Mounties Care CareFlight Helicopter, tasked by NSW Ambulance, was forced to land on a nearby cricket oval.
He was then taken by a road ambulance to Westmead Hospital in a stable condition.
The nurse who gave first aid to the man was thanked in a statement by the CareFlight specialist doctor who provided treatment at the scene.
