Central Coast car crash: 19-year-old sister charged with crash that killed 17-year-old brother

The 19-year-old was charged during a bedside hearing, with police alleging she was driving a car that veered off the road and hit a tree, killing her brother.

A 19-year-old woman has been charged over a car crash which killer her 17-year-old brother on the NSW Central Coast.

NSW Police will allege the siblings were travelling on the on the Pacific Hwy in Charmhaven just before in a station wagon driven by the 19-year-old when it veered off the road and hit a tree, at about 1.30am on Wednesday.

While the 17-year-old died at the scene, it’s alleged the girl left the scene following the crash, however she was shortly located and taken to Gosford Hospital for treatment of injuries she sustained in the incident.

Scenes from the crash show the station wagon crumpled and surrounded by debris, and police established a crime scene to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident.

In a bedside hearing on Wednesday, the girl was charged with dangerous driving occasioning death (drive manner dangerous), negligent driving (occasioning death), fail to stop and assist after vehicle impact causing death, and drive while suspended.

She was issued with a subsequent suspension notice and granted strict conditional bail to face Wyong Local Court on August 26.

A total of 206 people have lost their lives on NSW roads this year to date, trumping last year’s count of 190 fatalities in the same period.
