A simple break and enter for a group of luxury car thieves in Queensland turned south after running over one of their own with a 12-tonne tank.
Three hooded figures breaking into resident Mark Trueno’s Coopers Plains workshop in Brisbane’s south.
The thieves aimed to steal Mr Trueno’s prized collection of cars, coming prepared with items needed to commit a crime.
One of the hooded figures approached the back of the tank with an angle grinder and another entered into the military vehicle.
This is where things took a cartoonish turn.
The figure in the military vehicle tried to reverse it in haste and accidentally crushed his associate in the process, pinning him against the bollard.
The driver quickly got out of the vehicle, went through several drawers and bolted, leaving the injured man behind.
Mr Trueno said the footage from his CCTV reminded him of the two criminals from Home Alone.
“The CCTV reminded me of like Home Alone where there’s clown criminals just doing things over and over just wrong,” he told Nine.
“They’ve come prepared. They’ve got crowbar, grinder, torch, everything except their own brain apparently.”
While they failed to take the vehicle, Mr Trueno said the men still got away with the keys to three cars. The cars are worth more than half a million dollars and have sentimental value to him.
“It’s really upsetting because I mean these are two of my dream cars from when I was a kid,” Mr Trueno said.
“Then just to see someone bust down the doors and try take them 12-tonnes of military vehicle thwarted their plan.”
