Car rebirthing syndicate uncovered in NSW

THIRTY-TWO cars and four boats have been seized across two industrial complexes in western Sydney where police allege stolen cars were being rebirthed.

POLICE have uncovered an alleged car theft and rebirthing syndicate operating out of Sydney's west.

Officers searched two separate industrial complexes in St Marys this week and seized 32 cars, four boats and two motorbikes.

They also found vehicle parts, as well as firearms and drugs.

They allege the two sites were being used for rebirthing stolen cars.

Rebirthing involves transferring number plates from a written-off or crashed car onto a stolen car.

Detective Superintendent Murray Chapman said the cars were of a variety of makes and models.

"Once the items have been thoroughly inspected, we will be in a position to contact the rightful owners," he said in a statement.
