Meanwhile, tributes have flooded social media from around the world.

Mr Branagan’s sister, Caitlín, shared her heartbreak with fond memories of her beloved brother.

“It’s difficult to put into words how simply amazing Lorcán was,” she said.

“I truly admired him throughout my life – particularly his sense of drive, hard work and ability to light up a room with his infectious smile and laugh. Oh what I would give to hear it just one more time.

“It breaks my heart how you were taken in such tragic circumstances and my heart goes out to his girlfriend Shona and all our cousins who are currently out in Australia. Your strength is commendable.”

Mr Branagan, who hailed from County Down in Northern Ireland, had a passion for travel, having visited more than 10 countries in almost a decade.

“Another big part of Lorcán’s life was his passion for travelling,” his sister Caitlín said.

“The number of places he visited was unbelievable for his young age.

“Over 10 countries since turning 18 and undertook opportunities to spent summers in China, Asia and North America. His last travel destination was Australia.”

Mr Branagan’s death comes a few years after his own brother, Peárce, died in 2018, adding further heartache for the grieving family.

“Losing our brother Peárce in 2018 was a difficult time for our entire family circle – but especially for our Lorcán,” Caitlín said.

“Him and Peárce were inseparable. They had a bond that was like no other and a love for one another that was indescribable.

“Lorcán showed incredible strength during this time and the way he composed himself throughout was truly admirable to all.

“Our family feels a sense of comfort to know you are both united again.”

Mr Branagan was also remembered by his teammates at Young Ireland GAA Sydney, of which he was a member while in Australia.

“Lorcán’s unexpected departure has left us all reeling with shock and profound sorrow,” the club wrote on Facebook.

“Since joining our club this football season, Lorcán has made an indelible impression both on and off the pitch.

“His talent, enthusiasm, and kindness endeared him to all who had the privilege of knowing him.”

A memorial service in honour of Mr Branagan is expected to take place at Mary Immaculate Church in Waverley at 6pm on Wednesday.
