Disturbing CCTV footage has captured the moments after an Australian woman was allegedly gang-raped in Paris just days before the start of the Olympics.
French media reported a woman, 25, was found disoriented and unable to speak French outside a kebab shop on Boulevard de Clichy in Paris’ 18th arrondissement about 5am on Saturday, just metres from Moulin Rouge.
CCTV shows the woman crying and pleading for help at the shop, with a woman and the shop owners comforting her.
And then in a shock development, the footage shows what appears to be one of her alleged attackers walking into the kebab shop and ordering food.
Another diner punches the alleged attacker, sparking a confrontation in the shop.
The attacker then flees before the arrival of the police.
She was reportedly found in a stunned state with her dress “backwards” and partially torn off, claiming she’d been raped by five people.
She was taken to Bichat hospital by firefighters.
The woman was reportedly intoxicated and was meant to return to Australia over the weekend.
Paris’ prosecutor’s office said the 2nd judicial police district are investigating, according to Le Parisien.
“The investigation into the charge of gang rape likely to have been committed on the night of July 19 to 20 has been entrusted to the 2nd judicial police district,” the announcement said.
A hearing was reportedly scheduled for Monday.
The Alliance Paris police union said investigators will “do everything to quickly identify the individuals to justice”, according to Le Parisien.
A spokesperson for the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade said the Australian Embassy was making “urgent inquiries” with French authorities following the reports.
“The Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade stands ready to provide consular assistance,” the spokesperson said.
A staff member of the kebab shop, speaking with 7News, said the incident was “sad” and she “could not stop crying”.
Her alleged attackers remain at large.
The incident comes just days before the Olympics is set to begin.
The games begin at 11pm on Wednesday, July 24.
