ANGLESEA has held on to claim a historic fourth consecutive BPCA A1 premiership over Jan Juc.

The Roos posted a score of 151 to defend on day one, with Tyron Norman batting throughout almost the entire day to reach a personal score of 51.

Anglesea skipper Dylan Taylor said he was “so proud” of the playing group.

“I honestly couldn’t tell you what I’m feeling about it, it’s such a range of emotions,” he said.

“But I’m so proud of the boys, we had a small total to defend and we knew we would be there or there abouts if we bowled and fielded well, which we did.

“For Ty to bat the whole day (on Saturday) and just hang around and grind it out really gave us a chance, then our bowlers were so good in bowling in the one spot the entire day.”

Jan Juc lost four wickets for 45 runs early on the second day, before recovering and reaching 7-113 with less than two runs an over required.

But it was a grind to the end, with the Sharks falling short of the total by just six runs with a catch being held at third man.

Jan Juc coach Nick Hyden said he had been impressed with Norman’s knock.

“To bat out the entire day in really hot conditions was incredible,” he said.

“He just batted time, that’s what we’ve wanted to do all year, and through tough conditions he was fantastic.”

Norman was awarded best on ground for his performance in the victory.

Hyden said there was extra emotion in the game as the two teams battled it out for the final time in the 2022-23 season.

“Everyone’s a bit more emotional than a regular home-and-away game, there’s a bit of history between Anglesea and Jan Juc in finals,” he said.

“We’ve got some guys that have played in those grand finals, so that makes it go to the next level a little bit, everyone’s a bit more tense and at the end of the day there’s something to play for that everyone’s been chasing all season.”
