BFL wrap: Combination changes no hurdle for Ammos in win

Down a key piece and scrambling for new combinations did not ultimately hurt Geelong Amateurs as the side powered to a 49-32 win against Queenscliff.

Ammos goal shooter Ruby Watson missed the clash with the Coutas, with coach Riley Richardson left to find a new avenue to goal.

He said he was really happy with how the girls worked together, despite being undersized.

“Ruby’s a linchpin in our front line, but it was great to be able to try some different combinations and see how they went,” he said.

“Georgia Duncan moved from goal attack to goal shooter, and she stood up really well, and gave us great opportunities.

“We knew we’d have to be a little bit more patient with the ball with Ruby out, but the girls responded really well and we managed to have a positive score every quarter, which I was really happy with.”

Ocean Grove v Drysdale

The Grubbers ran out convincing 31-goal winners against the Hawks, extending their lead every quarter.

Ocean Grove’s shooter Rebecca O’Neill scored 38 goals in the win, while Ashton O’Brien scored 17 and was named best on court.

Anglesea v Portarlington

A dominant last quarter handed Anglesea a 39-28 win over Portarlington.

Anglesea trailed at quarter and half time, before leading at the final break by just two goals.

Anglesea goal shooter Bree Caldwell was named best on court with 22 goals in the win.

Barwon Heads v Newcomb

Newcomb caused an upset away from home when it beat Barwon Heads 38-33.

Goal Shooter Laney Mcfayden was named best on court after scoring 34 goals in a dominant performance that helped carry Newcomb over the line.

Torquay v Modewarre

Torquay proved too strong for Modewarre, winning 48-33 at home.

Torquay led at every break to run out 15-goal winners, with Elisa Hall proving too strong in attack with 31 goals.
