Being best player at your club doesn't mean most Brownlow votes

OUR club by club guide to who will poll the most Brownlow votes for your team. And it isn't always the obvious.

BEING your club's best player doesn't always ensure the most Brownlow medal votes.

Take the GWS Giants, who won just the two games and didn't get close in too many others.

The club will poll a record low tally of votes, certainly less than the 39 collected by Gold Coast on the back of Gary Ablett (23) last season.

So it comes down to who played well in their wins over the Gold Coast and Port Adelaide - and it wasn't necessarily their best and fairest top two in Callan Ward and Toby Greene.

Ruckman Jonathan Giles was outstanding in both games. Greene is a $1.65 favourite with TAB to top GWS voting whereas Giles is a shortening $3.25. Get on now.

Brownlow tracker: every player, every game, every vote

Here are our other suggestions to top club voting:

Adelaide: Scott Thompson has polled well before and should lead Patrick Dangerfield clearly at the halfway mark.

Brisbane: Tommy Rockliff is all the rage but Simon Black is the forgotten man and he did play well in their wins.

Carlton: Chris Judd. Marc Murphy is the favourite but Judd played some massive games early.

Collingwood: No reason to look outside Dane Swan despite the buzz about Dayne Beams.

Essendon: Jobe Watson, but so short not worth backing.

Fremantle: Aaron Sandilands. Bookies are betting $10 on the Giant with Matthew Pavlich supposedly past the post.

Geelong: Joel Selwood. He is the Cats' standout.

GWS: Jonathan Giles. Played well when it matters.

Gold Coast: Gary Ablett. See Jobe Watson.

Hawthorn: Sam Mitchell: Should get the Hawk chocolates although the $1.12 is short.

Melbourne: Jack Grimes. Nathan Jones is the red-hot favourite but Grimes played well in their rare good games.

North Melbourne: Andrew Swallow. Boomer Harvey is the only danger.

Port Adelaide: Really like Hamish Hartlett ahead of Travis Boak.

Richmond: Shane Tuck. Reckon he will be the shock of the night, even beating favourite Trent Cotchin.

St Kilda: Nick Dal Santo. Lenny Hayes won the best-and-fairest but Nick Dal is a proven poller.

Sydney: Kieren Jack. Like Tuck, believe he will be the surprise packet.

West Coast: Hardest team to assess but Dean Cox will give a good return.

Western Bulldogs: Ryan Griffen is a chance although skipper Matthew Boyd is a regular poller.
