Barwick boys take a break from farm duties to shoot the breeze with the PM

A five-hour trip from to Dubbo proved worthwhile for Barwick brothers Harry, Max and Hugo when they scored high-fives and a chat about NSW’s recent State of Origin win with the PM at yesterday’s The Daily Telegraph Bush Summit.

Bored with farm duties such as feeding stock during the school holidays, three brothers made it their mission yesterday to catch a glimpse of Prime Minister Scott Morrison.

Travelling more than five hours from their Warialda farm to Dubbo with their parents Amanda and Sam Barwick, Harry, 12, Max, 10, and Hugo, 6, were left speechless after scoring high-fives from Mr Morrison and bonding over NSW’s recent State of Origin win.

“They wanted to hear his speech particularly with what we are going through as a family because they see him on the news saying how he’s trying to support us,” Mrs Barwick said.

“Regardless of what side of politics you sit on, it’s awesome to meet the Prime Minister especially for a little bunch of kids. We live in an amazing place but you don’t see that every day (politicians) like you may see in Sydney.”

Mr Barwick, a fourth-generation farmer, has been working seven days a week on the cattle and grain farm as he struggles to cope with the drought.

The family say they’ve never seen one this bad.

“Most farmers are doing it pretty tough and we talk to the older generation and they say it’s never been this tough,” Mrs Barwick said.

“The boys have been helping their dad during the holidays … and (today) they got a much-needed boost.”
