A second man has been arrested after the body of another man was found inside a house after what police allege was a drug deal that went “horribly wrong”.
NSW Police had launched a public appeal to locate the second man who was seen near the Croydon Park house in Sydney’s inner southwest.
A 32-year-old man, who was arrested at the scene in the Sydney suburb of Croydon Park on Monday evening, was to face court on Tuesday afternoon after being charged with murder.
The body of the 29-year-old, believed to a Malaysian national, was found by police called to the Kembla Street house just after 5pm on Monday for a welfare check.
He allegedly had stab wounds to his neck.
Meanwhile, police launched an appeal for public assistance to identify a man last seen near the property before announcing his arrest on Tuesday night.
“Following extensive inquiries and an appeal for public information, officers arrested a 36-year-old man at Burwood Police Station, about 6.50pm,” NSW Police said in a statement.
“Inquiries continue.”
Superintendent Christine McDonald said police were investigating the “brutal” incident as a homicide.
“This is a gruesome crime,” Superintendent McDonald told reporters on Monday night.
“The man’s injuries are horrific, and what we know from preliminary investigations is that this we believe is a drug deal gone horribly wrong.”
Police don’t believe the incident was a domestic violence incident or gang-related.
Superintendent McDonald said detectives were “still piecing together who resides at this location, who attended this location this afternoon and for what reason”.
A crime scene has been established and investigations are underway.
A report will be prepared for the information of the coroner.
Anyone who has information about the man or has CCTV vision, dashcam footage or information about the incident is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
