Mourning members of the Herbert River Crushers Rugby League Club formed an honour guard as the coffin of a long-time supporter was carried from St Patrick’s Church following an emotional funeral service in Ingham on Tuesday.

Father Jomi Chahko said beloved Hinchinbrook computer businessman Angelo Cosenza, 63, had “left us far too soon”.

“We gather here today with heavy hearts to honour and remember a truly remarkable man.”

He said Mr Consenza, who along with wife Desley were long-time members of the Crushers’ committee, had touched friends and family in profound ways.

“He was more than just a family member and beloved friend, he was a shining example of kindness, love and unwavering dedication.”

In a statement on the memorial folder distributed to mourners, Desley, outlined her “clever” husband’s colourful career, which spanned hauling sugar cane and selling and delivering furniture to mine work and 31 years as owner-operator of Ace Computer Solutions.

She said the most important people in his life were his family, the pride and joy of his life.

“We do know how much you love us all and how you wouldn’t want us to be sad,” she said.

“You in your unselfish way would want us to be happy and to only remember the good times and to keep making you proud.”
She was listening to Pink Floyd as she wrote her tribute to her husband and the song ‘Shine On You Crazy Diamond’ was played during the service, “wishing that you would wake up and tell me you love me and everything is going to be alright”. “I know in my heart it is time for you to go and fly with the angels.”

Mr Consenza is survived by Desley, mother Mrs Consenza, and children Anthony, Bryce and Kristin.
