Andrew Demetriou sets fans a Twitter at Brownlow count
ANDREW Demetriou’s mispronunciation of a Hawks player set the Twitter world alight during the Brownlow Medal count.
ANDREW DemetriouÂs mispronunciation of a Hawks player set the Twitter world alight during the Brownlow Medal count.
The AFL chief executive stumbled when young Hawk Issac Smith polled a vote against Essendon in Round 14.
Rather than saying “I Smith, one vote”, the audience heard a hiccup and “I Omith, one vote”.
Geelong player Shannon Byrnes was one of the first to jump on the mistake on Twitter.
“Demitriou fumbles on one name … for next time Andrew … Smith is pronounced Smith and not Omith ... #commonmistake”, Byrnes (@ShannonBoourns) tweeted.
He also gave his votes for the broadcast.
“Brownlow 3 votes:M Richardson. 2 votes: R Finch, 1 vote: I.Omith.”
Meanwhile, Kangaroo Andrew Swallow was more worried about the waiting staff’s performance at the count.
“Crown service terrible, might need to go with @Boomer_29 to pit 5 to get a drink,” (@AndrewSwallow) tweeted.
It seemed former Saint Stevie Baker wanted to get a closer look at the event, tweeting, “Looking for a new TV. Which is the biggest and best for money? Should I get 3D?” in the middle of the count.
And whoever was running the official Adelaide Crows Twitter account (Adelaide_FC) was not enjoying proceedings.
The series of depressed tweets included, “Nothing v Bulldogs #thisisugly #gocrows” and “Planning to boil the kettle when round 18 arrives #badbadbadgame #gocrows”
