An American flight bound for Australia was forced to land on the Gold Coast on Sunday morning during a torrential downpour.

American Airlines flight AA7, travelling from Dallas Fort Worth in Texas to Brisbane was diverted to land at Gold Coast Airport as southeast Queensland experienced a torrential downpour.
The plane, tail number N846AN is a Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner and was due to land in Brisbane at 6.30am.
The Gold Coast has never had direct flights with the US.
Gold Coast Airport confirmed in a statement on Sunday morning the US flight had been forced to land by the deteriorating weather.
“American Airlines flight AA7, operating from Dallas-Fort Worth to Brisbane, diverted to Gold Coast Airport earlier today due to adverse weather conditions in Brisbane,” the statement read.
“Passengers will briefly disembark while the aircraft refuels and will continue their journey to Brisbane as soon as conditions improve.
“Operations at Gold Coast Airport are continuing as normal.”
The flight took to the air again to complete its journey to Brisbane early on Sunday afternoon once the wet weather cleared.
