ALL GFL stat leaders for round 18

Plus one player recorded more than 10 contested marks in a massive win to finish the season.

Disposals

Geelong West had a final match to remember with a massive victory against the winless Supersaints, with two Giants collecting the ball at will.

David Handley became the first player in 2022 to record a 50-disposal game, eclipsing North Shore’s Nick Dixon’s multiple 48-disposal efforts.

Handley had 50 touches in the win against St Albans, while teammate Baxter Mensch had 38 disposals.

Only Handley and Seagull Brad Gerrard had more than the Mathieson Medal fancy, with Gerrard collecting 42 touches in the loss to Leopold.

St Mary’s duo Jarryd Garner and Damien McMahon had plenty of the football against Grovedale, recording 33 and 32 disposals respectively, while Ethan Liddle also had 32 touches against St Albans.

Marks

St Mary’s key forward Tom Lang was an absolute force against Grovedale, taking 13 marks in the round 18 win.

He tied with Leopold’s Jake Pitt and South Barwon’s Andrew Boseley with the most marks for the round.

Boseley had the most contested marks for the season with 11 against Bell Park.

Geelong West’s Baxter Mensch, St Mary’s Damian McMahon, Colac’s Lachlan Simpkin and Bell Park’s Nicholas Petering and Stephen Bensted had 11 marks each.

Tackles

A pair of Saints led the league for tackles in round 18, with Keidan Rayner laying 11 tackles and returning star Harry Benson applying 10 against Grovedale.

South Barwon key forward Andrew Boseley also laid 10 against Bell Park, with the Swan also kicking 10 goals and taking 11 contested marks.

St Albans Brock McDonald, Colac’s Brody Mahony, and Lara pair Connor Linehan-Cunningham and Jack Bouchard all laid nine tackles in their respective games.

Hit Outs

Grovedale’s Ryan Abbott again led the league in hit outs, recording 51 taps against St Mary’s on Saturday.

Geelong West’s Tylar Watts finished his season on a high, with 43 hit outs in the massive win against St Albans.

Former AFL ruck Trent West recorded 34 hit outs against North Shore, with Leopold winning its game comfortably.

His opponent, Kobe Annand, had 26 hit outs, while Eagles ruck Cameron Wilkinson recorded 25 against Colac.

Goals

Swan Andrew Boseley led the way for goals with a massive haul of 10 majors against Bell Park.

It is the second time this season a player has cracked double digits in a game in the GFL, after Braden Hocking kicked 10 for Newtown & Chilwell.

Colac’s Jacob McGuane also had his kicking boots on, with a bag of six goals against Newtown & Chilwell.

Tom Lang kicked five goals for St Mary’s, as did Swan Lachlan Noble.
